Are you eligible to study abroad after FSc?

In almost every case, yes. FSc, ICS, I.Com and FA all sit at the same level: 12 years of formal education. That is the standard entry point for an undergraduate degree in the English speaking world, so you do not need to wait, do a gap year, or finish a local BA first.

What changes from country to country is how each system reads your Intermediate result. Some accept it as a direct pass into Year 1. Others treat 12 years of Pakistani schooling as one year short of their own school leaving standard and add a bridging year. Neither answer is a rejection. They are just two different ways of lining your qualification up with theirs.

Which countries accept FSc directly?

Here is the honest split, based on how universities in each country handle Pakistani Intermediate results in 2026.

Countries that commonly accept FSc for direct bachelor’s entry:

• United States. Most universities admit FSc holders straight into a four year bachelor’s degree. Community colleges are an even cheaper first two years.
• Canada. Many universities accept HSSC for direct entry, usually asking for strong Intermediate marks and specific subjects for programmes like engineering.
• Australia. A good FSc result is often enough for direct entry, though some universities still prefer a foundation or diploma pathway.
• Europe (Italy, Germany, Poland, Hungary, France and more). A wide range of public and private universities accept FSc, sometimes with a subject match or an entrance test.

Why the UK usually asks for a foundation year

British universities compare your 12 years of schooling with their own 13 year route through A-Levels. To close that one year gap, most of them ask FSc students to complete an International Foundation Year, also called Year 0. It runs for one academic year, sits on the university campus or with a partner college, and feeds straight into the first year of your chosen degree.

Typical entry to a UK foundation programme is around 60 to 65 percent in FSc plus an English test score near IELTS 5.5. After you pass the foundation year, you move into Year 1 with the same students who arrived through A-Levels. The main alternative is to sit Cambridge A-Levels as a private candidate in Pakistan, which does open direct entry to UK, Irish, Australian and Canadian universities, but it takes one to two extra years of study.

Marks and English scores you need

There is no single number, because every university sets its own bar. As a realistic guide for 2026:

• Marks: mid ranking universities often want 60 percent and up in FSc, while more selective ones look for 70 to 80 percent. Canada frequently sits at the 70 to 75 percent mark.
• English: undergraduate programmes usually ask for IELTS 6.0 to 6.5, and foundation years accept around 5.5. A number of universities now waive the test if your FSc was taught and examined in English or you meet other conditions.

Your four main routes after FSc

1. Direct bachelor’s degree

Apply straight into a three or four year degree in the USA, Canada, Australia or Europe. This is the fastest and often the cheapest overall, because you skip any bridging year.

2. Foundation year (Year 0)

The standard UK path, and an option in Australia and a few other places. One preparatory year, then straight into the degree.

3. A-Levels first

Sit A-Levels privately in Pakistan, then apply for direct entry almost anywhere. It adds time but keeps every door open.

4. Diploma or pathway college

A one to two year diploma that can later transfer into the second year of a bachelor’s degree. Popular in Canada and Australia for students who want a lower cost start.

Costs depend far more on the country than on the fact that you are entering after FSc.
